Encouraged by data-driven impact of global AIDS program.
Last week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken celebrated the 19th anniversary of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Since the program was introduced by President George W. Bush in 2003, it has helped the United States invest $100 billion into the global fight against AIDS, saving 21 million lives in 20 countries.
“As we mark PEPFAR’s remarkable life-saving impact, we also recommit to the important work ahead—reaching the Sustainable Development Goal target of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030,” Secretary Blinken said. “Through our strong and sustained support for PEPFAR and our leadership in hosting the Seventh Replenishment of the Global Fund this fall, the United States will continue to lead global efforts and mobilize others to prevail in fighting AIDS.”
